2006-2007 EETT Formula Grant Period Comes to an End

The 2006-2007 EETT Formula grant period closes on June 30, 2008. All funds from that grant cycle must be spent or obligated by June 30, 2008, or the LEA will be billed for unspent funds. As a reminder, 25% of all EETT funds must be spent on professional development, with the balance spent on technologies that are tied to the district technology plan.

Verizon Grant: Equipment Reimbursement Through CSUSB Instructional Technology Masters Program

California State University San Bernardino, through a Verizon Protégé grant, is making available up to $500 reimbursement for computer hardware or software for those who enroll in the Instructional Technology program and complete the first course by December 10, 2008. In addition, grantees are qualified to be in a drawing pool with a prize worth up to $1500.00 at the annual EdTech Classroom Conference, the first Saturday of November.

RIMS CTAP Summer Roadshow

Registration is now available for the RIMS CTAP Summer Roadshow events. Join us in hands-on exploration of a variety of technology tools to support student engagement and enhance instruction in your classroom at one of three two-day events held at Desert Mountain Center, West End Educational Service Center, and Moreno Valley Unified School District. The $40 registration fee allows participants to register for up to four half-day hands-on workshops covering a wide variety of topics for novice and intermediate proficiency technology using educators.

EETT-Competitive Round 7 Call for Readers

The California Department of Education is calling for applications for a position on the EETT-C Round 7 grant review panel. Grant reviewers’ travel expenses are covered by the CDE. Applications to be a member of the Round 7 EETT-C grant review panel can be downloaded from the CDE. Reader applications are due to the CDE by April 23, 2008.

RIMS CTAP is seeking suggestions for possible professional development priorities for the Summer Roadshow hands-on training events to be held in locations throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties during Summer 2008. In addition, Region 10 CTAP is in the process of reapplying for funding for the next three years. As part of our re-application process, we are required to conduct a needs assessment for the school districts to which we provide services. EETT-Competitive Round 7

On February 29, the California Department of Education (CDE) posted the Request for Applications (RFA) for the $15 million federal Enhancing Education Through Technology Competitive (EETT-C) grant program. The primary purpose of this EETT-C program is to improve student academic achievement in grades 4-8 through the use of technology. EETT-C is a competitive grant process; LEAs must complete an application which is scored and ranked against other applicants in the region. The top scoring applications will be funded.

RIMS CTAP will be holding a rollout meeting to provide information and guidance about the Request for Applications on Thursday, March 20, 2008 in San Bernardino.

Applications are due to the Education Technology Office of the CDE in Sacramento by Wednesday, April 23, 2008.

Google Seeking Young Artists

Google has just announced a new competition for students - Doodle for Google offers young artists the chance to design the Google logo and perhaps have their artwork seen by people all over the world. The theme for the U.S. competition is "What if...?" - students also need to write a title for their doodle and a supporting statement of up to 50 words. The grand prize includes a $10,000 college scholarship for the national winner, and their design will take over the Google.com homepage for a day. Other prizes for regional finalists include trips to GooglePlex in Mountain View, California, and t-shirts with their Google Doodle imprinted.

Library of Congress Sponsors Intensive Study of Primary Sources

The Library of Congress is now accepting applications for its 2008 Summer Teacher Institutes. The institutes provide educators from grades 4–12 across the nation with the opportunity to engage in intensive study and exploration of a specific topic using the staff expertise and facilities of the Library of Congress. Participants will develop strategies for teaching with primary source digital content; engage in inquiry learning in hands-on workshops; learn from Library of Congress subject matter experts; and network with other teachers from across the country to share ideas and experiences.
